Upgrade components
Upgrade components can be inserted into weapons, armor, trinkets and gathering tools to provide an attribute bonus or an additional effect when the equipment is in use. They can be obtained through crafting, bought from vendors or on the trading post, looted or received as rewards. Some upgrades have additional cosmetic effects. Upgrade components can be divided into two categories: universal and type-restricted. Universal upgrades, like gemstones, can be put in any kind of equipment, whereas types-restricted upgrades, like inscriptions, must be placed in specific kinds of objects to gain their benefits.
The majority of upgrade components can be retrieved from the equipment they are currently installed in, but some are only salvageable by using a Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage Tool. Ascended armor and legendary gear could contain upgrade components that can only be retrieved with an Black or Ascended Salvage Kit. Upgrades that are inserted into an item can't be substituted with other upgrades of the same kind except for glyphs that can be freely swapped in and out of gathering tools.
Glyphs can be replaced with other glyphs. Any upgraded item will show the original upgrade and the new one when hovering over it. Inscriptions are able to add their own name to the item they alter, and can be viewed by right clicking on the upgraded weapon or piece of equipment.
Glyphs
Glyphs can be used to provide additional text features. They are usually based on icons or other symbols that are visually connected to the idea they represent, however, they can be totally abstract. Unicode defines symbols, assigning a code for each symbol. This allows them to appear in a variety of fonts. Some glyphs are available in multiple forms, like small caps or swashes. Some glyphs only have one form, like the capital letter A. The Glyphs panel has a search box that lets you filter by the name of the symbol and its CID or GID, or its Unicode value. You can also use the context menu of the character to create a new character or modify the glyph.
You can choose a font to be used in a glyph set from the Glyphs panel's context menu. You can also choose to keep a specific font in mind when adding the new glyph. The Glyphs Panel will display the font you have selected when a glyph is associated with more than one font.
The glyph metrics of a font impact the way text is laid out. For example the glyph could have an advance width that is the length of space it occupies from its starting point to the end of the font. The glyph might also have side bearings which are white spaces on either the left or right sides of the font. These side bearings are often known as kerning and influence how the glyph is displayed in the document.
Glyphs are upgraded at an Upgrade Altar, which is located inside the Nightmare Dungeons. The Glyph Upgrade Altar will appear after the specified amount of time has passed in every Nightmare Dungeon. The Glyph Upgrade altar lets players to use their Glyph XP earned from running the dungeon. It also increases the number of all Paragon Board nodes within its area of.

The hero can add stat bonuses from each glyph to his total. These bonuses can help you decide what glyphs you should upgrade, and where to put them in the Paragon Board.

Set Bonus
A set bonus is an additional effect that can be added to a piece of equipment. The effect boosts certain abilities or stats, and increases their power or utility. There are many different set bonuses, and each has a specific effect that it offers. These bonuses are specific to the gear which grants them. Each set bonus comes with a level, and it is important to be aware of this when choosing the right gear for your character.
In Breath of the Wild, there are 15 different set bonuses. Some of these effects require the player's activation while others are not. Some of these effects are linked to armoring, whereas others are tied to mods or enhancements within the item. Contrary to the glyphs set bonuses don't reset when you upgrade your gear.
You'll get an amount of set bonuses when you purchase new equipment. It could be a small increase in damage or defense. For instance the Blood Mandate set provides a small fire and cold damage boost. However, you will only receive five copies of this set per character.
Other set bonuses can provide protection against specific kinds of enemies, or a reduction in the time between cooldowns. Certain armor sets may even provide a buff to specific types of weapon. For instance, the Bone Weap set bonus stops Stal enemies from attacking and increases the damage of bone weapons. This is particularly useful for hunters who prefer to use bon weapons.
The majority of players select the bonus that best fits their class. This is because they want to improve their performance and get the most of their character. However, many of the set bonuses have different effects for each class and it isn't easy to decide which is the best.
Some of these set rewards can be acquired through items called tokens, which can be obtained by submitting many warzone commendations at an operations vendor. They are also dropped by bosses of Operations or other content such as level 75 dailies and weeklies.
